Jamaica is the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean and the third largest in the region. With a total land area of 4,411 square miles (10,991 sq. km.), the island is 146 miles long and has widths varying between 22 and 51 miles (35 and 82 km).

Jamaica’s terrain is very mountainous with much of the land rising above 1,000 feet (305 km). The highest point, Blue Mountain Peak, is 7,402 feet (2,256m) above sea level.

    • "Naturally". Home of the magical Blue Lagoon with depths of over 178 feet with colours that change with the movement of the sun. Approximately 3 hours east of Montego Bay.

    • Jamaica's "Diamond in the Rough" Home to wild things and wild places - a natural feast for the senses. Sample Jamaican pepper shrimp at Middle Quarters or stop for the local fish fry and bammy. A scenic 2 hour drive south of Montego Bay.

Climate:

The hottest months fall between May and September. The “winter” season (December to March) is appreciably cooler. Areas of high altitude have chilly climes. For example, the Blue Mountain Peak has an average temperature of 13° Celsius.

Currency:

The official currency of Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar (JMD). Licensed cambios and bureau de change are easily accessible and most currencies can be exchanged in banks. There is also a bureau de change at Half Moon.
